Hospital liens reflect charges by a hospital for care, treatment and maintenance of ill or injured persons as they pertain, primarily, to motor vehicle accidents and Workers’ Compensation injuries. Filed in the county where the hospital is located and the county where the patient resides, hospital liens must be filed within 120 days of hospital discharge. Copies of hospital liens may be requested for a copy fee of fifty cents per page at the following location:
Circuit Court Filing Counter
140 Adams Avenue, Room 224

Hospital liens are filed with the Circuit Court in accordance with T.C.A. Title 29, Chapter 22-101. Hospital lien data is currently being converted from manual format to the Circuit Court case docketing system. The Circuit Court has begun to provide limited hospital lien data in a searchable, electronic format as a courtesy. Reviewing this online data does not constitute an official or complete search. It remains the sole responsibility of the attorney of record or interested party to personally affect a thorough search of all hospital lien records, in the Shelby County Circuit Court Clerk's Office.

SEARCH TIPS
Enter as much information as possible. The more information you provide, the shorter the list of selections the system will return, making it easier for you to identify your search object.
If you know only part of a name:
A partial search method may be used for last name searches. To utilize this feature, click the 'Check for Partial Last Name' checkbox. Using this feature allows you to enter only a portion of the last name. For example, if you enter the last name SMITH, the results start with the first SMITH on file and continue with names like SMITHERS and SMITHWICK. If this checkbox is not clicked, the results will be exact matches only.
If you know how the name ‘sounds’, but not how it is spelled:
If the 'Check for Phonetic Search' checkbox has been clicked, the search will retrieve not only names that exactly match the name you enter, but names that sound the same as well. If you enter the last name JOHNSON, the system retrieves JOHNSON, JONSON, JOHNNSON, JONNSON, and all other spelling variations. This feature also applies to the first name field.
