The GOAL Program uses volunteer facilitators and guest speakers to provide children being detained at the Juvenile Court Central Detention Facility with an opportunity to receive relevant and beneficial information within a loosely structured classroom. With a daily average of 100 children staying for an average of three days, the GOAL Program has a potential to serve over 8,600 children in a calendar year. Classes are specifically designed to meet the needs of unruly and delinquent children.

Sessions are scheduled Monday - Friday. Each session will cover various subjects relating to children's needs. Sessions are held in a secured Central Detention classroom, overseen by a Detention Monitor. Topics to be covered in the sessions will include, but are not limited to:

  • Anger management
  • Conflict resolution skills
  • Communication skills
  • Drug/alcohol substance abuse awareness
  • Sexually transmitted disease (STD)
  • Building self esteem
  • Other life skills (finances, job seeking and/or readiness)

The GOAL Program Coordinator oversees the program and currently we have 25 facilitators who meet regularly with the children in detention.
